So why am I blogging anyways...

Greetings. Hi. Hello. Welcome?
After many failed journaling attempts throughout the past, errr, ten or so years, I've decided to try blogging. So here we go. I am going to assume that I will have very few, if any, readers, but nevertheless, I will introduce myself and give you a few warnings and disclaimers, along with explain why I am even blogging in the first place (hint: it is not because I think my opinions are prolific and valuable beyond measure).

My name is Allison, I am 23 years old living in the Westport area of Kansas City, Missouri. I am a recent graduate of the University of Kansas, in which I obtained my degree in Environmental Studies with a minor in Philosophy (they are more related than you think). I currently work super part time for my dad's fitness company, doing various video editing projects. I am in the process of applying and deciding upon a graduate program that I plan to attend in the fall of 2015. I like books (particularly but not limited to fantasy), trees, pandas, my boyfriend, my few friends, philosophy, wolves, and lastly, but of particular importance for this blog, the environment. I am a vegetarian with a massive sweet tooth. I love the outdoors; hiking, kayaking, white-water rafting, etc. I do not drink, do drugs, smoke, or drink caffeine, something I am sure I will discuss in detail on here at some point. I also quite enjoy Sporting KC soccer.

The majority of this blog will be dedicated to my ramblings, rants, diatribes, theories, etc, etc, in relation to the environment and society in general. I am about as Liberal as you can get, as in I would happily leave the United States for a country with a more socialist agenda (in which I plan on doing someday). My political (and moral) beliefs will come up often in this blog, so if you are easily offended or love the Tea Party, close this window/tab immediately. But seriously, I care more about the environment than pretty much anything. I've devoted my life in countless ways towards the preservation, conservation, and protection of all things on this Earth, and it has fundamentally shaped who I am today. To be an environmentalist in this day and age is probably the single most frustrating, defeating, and difficult 'thing to be', and some of this blog will be a reflection of that fact.

Keeping my political and moral beliefs in mind, okay, I may lose some of your here, to put it VERY lightly, I have some very strong and negative feelings towards modern American society; actually, essentially all industrialized society. I am an introvert, which is largely a result of the aforementioned fact, and when I do decide to leave my house and enter the general public, sometimes I need a place to vent about all the things I experience that leave me repulsed and downright sad; hence the blog.

Despite all that, I am a very happy and blessed (having nothing to do with any "god") person. I love my life, quite simply. I have a few really amazing friends, a wonderful immediate family, whom without I would be literally and figuratively nothing, and the most loving, caring, and amazing boyfriend a girl could ask for. In fact, let me say a couple things about my boyfriend. It seems kind of odd that considering my very strong feelings towards the world I could be so deeply in love with someone, but let me just tell you, this guy gets me. I cannot even really describe how much he means to me, but he is incredible and truly my other half/soul mate/twin flame.

Anyways, something people always tell me about myself is that I constantly appear to be mad; in reality, I kind of am, but for the most part, I have A LOT going on in my head pretty much all the time. It sounds kind of lame and egotistical to say this, but I am definitely a deep-thinker. To give you an example or some context; say I am at a bar with some friends. Someone asks me why I look angry or what I am thinking about, and I could respond with something like; "how I really want to learn how to make candles this weekend" or "whether or not capitalism and the global industrialized system is moral and just or not" or "the underpinnings of industrial society and how I can effectively dismantle the system". So basically, I created this blog as a way to get out some of my thoughts, vent my frustrations, synthesize my ideas, and also allow myself to continue refining and improving upon my writing skills, so I do not lose them while I am out of school for the time being.

If you are still with me after reading this, bravo, that's pretty cool. I promise I am not completely crazy, nor do I believe I am some genius that is going to save the world, I just want to get my thoughts out there for myself. If you would like to read them and follow me on this journey, please feel free, but it may be a bumpy ride. :-)
